  77.             + Turned on the "Local" attribute bit.  GEcho doesn't include
  78.               messages in the .PKT without this bit turned on.  Don't know
  79.               why it needs this bit turned on;  Qmail worked fine with this

  87. 08-Oct-1992 - Partially completed the QWK to REP (QWK2REP.EXE) conversion
  88.               module.

  90.             + QWK to REP conversion is useful in environment where the
  91.               FidoNet *.MSG isn't desired. QWK2REP can convert the host
  92.               BBS's QWK packet into a .REP packet for uploading to the local
  93.               BBS. It's working, but not quite complete, 2 separate BBS
  94.               setup is required if you want to use this module now.
  95.  
  96.             + Had to do a quick fix on the tag that I put on imported/sent
  97.               messages.  It was being erased by Maximus when the message was
  98.               replied to.  This caused FidoQWK to pick these messages up as
  99.               new messages.

  101.               The tag now uses the "Originate Node" and "Cost" field in the
  102.               *.MSG header. I don't see any BBS software using these fields,
  103.               but let me know if it interferes with the BBS software.  It
  104.               may have to be visible if I can't use the message header to
  105.               store it.

  117.             + Reworked the SysOp name translation functions.  This function
  118.               will be used on the command line for now:

  120.                 To translate "SYSOP" to "GEOFFREY SY" in all the "FROM:"
  121.                 field in the messages, use: /TF:SYSOP=GEOFFREY;SY
  122.  
  123.                 To translate the "TO:" field, use: /TT:SYSOP=GEOFFREY;SY.

  125.               Both the /TF and /TT functions work with both MSG2REP as well
  126.               as QWK2MSG.

  128.             + The PURGE.EXE utility is used to remove all the *.MSG files
  129.               and reset the high-water marks to 1.

  131.             - If you've been using the /IS (ignore sent) switch, you should
  132.               stop using it now.  This version of FidoQWK no longer observes
  133.               or uses the "sent attribute".  If the /IS switch is used, all
  134.               messages, including messages created with FidoQWK will be sent
  135.               to the .REP packet.

  139.               being hit with a fever.  It's also weird that I caught a fever
  140.               in the middle of summer.

  143.               updated to use the FidoNet standard of storing the echomail
  144.               message pointers.

  146.             ! To the person from (Syracuse, NY) who left me the numbers
  147.               1-216-966-####, I couldn't connect.  With this fever and
  148.               head-ache I'm having, I probably wrote down the wrong number.
  149.               I checked the area codes listing and noticed that 216 is not
  150.               in Syracuse, even with my head-ache, it's not possible for me
  151.               to miss the area code by this magnitude.

  156.             - I screwed up version 1.06 when I added the line-wrap routine.
  157.               The buffer in the line-wrap routine didn't get flushed, this
  158.               caused the same message to be sent many times.

  160.               PLEASE DELETE VERSION 1.06.  IT DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY!

  162.             - I had some time to do some more reading on the FTSC and some
  163.               other FidoNet notes.  I've found that the 1.MSG is used for
  164.               storing echomail high-water mark.  FidoQWK will now follow
  165.               this standard of maintaining echomail pointers.  This should
  166.               help those who had to reset the pointers manually when the
  167.               message base was renumbered, purged, or reset.  If you had
  168.               been using the /IP switch you can stop doing that now, unless
  169.               really want to scan the message base from the first message.

  180.             - The alias 'SYSOP' didn't get translated to the real name on
  181.               outgoing messages.
  182.  
  183.             - Renamed the executables for planned support of other FidoNet
  184.               message formats.  I'm looking into supporting Squish and Fido
  185.               packet 2 format in the near future.  Currently only the Fido
  186.               *.MSG format is supported.
  187.  
  188.                        FID2REP has been renamed to MSG2REP
  189.                        QWK2FID has been renamed to QWK2MSG
  190.  
  191.             - The lock up problems caused just prior to shelling out to the
  192.               compression program may have been caused by the EMS check on
  193.               some machines. This version of FidoQWK will no longer check
  194.               for EMS when shelling out.
  195.  
  196.               Hopefully the following options will fix this problem:
  197.  
  198.             - Use the /SWAP or /EMS option if swapping to disk or EMS when
  199.               executing the compression program is desired.
  200.  
  201.            -  Use /FS to tell FidoQWK to use Full-Screen when executing the
  202.               ZIP and unZIP programs.
  203.  
  204.             - Added the /NS (No Shell) option.  Use this switch to tell
  205.               FidoQWK not to run the compression/decompression programs.
  206.               When this option is used, QWK2MSG expects that the QWK packet
  207.               had already been unpacked into the work directory.
  208.  
  209.               With this option enabled, MSG2REP will create the BBS_ID.MSG
  210.               file in the current directory.  This BBS_ID.MSG packet needs
  211.               to be manually compressed into BBS_ID.REP before sending to
  212.               the QWK mail door.
  213.  
  214.             - The /IT switch is no longer supported, I've been informed that
  215.               it is not for used the way I had used it.
  216.  
  217.             - The /IS (Ignore Sent) switch was added.  Use this switch to
  218.               ignore the "Sent" attribute on the *.MSG files.  I'm not sure
  219.               if this attribute bit needs to be checked or not.  I didn't
  220.               find any information in the FTS drafts on the use of these
  221.               attributes.  If someone knows anything about these bits I'd
  222.               appreciate any information.
  223.  
  224.               I might add some code to update the *.MSG files' "Sent"
  225.               attribute.  Let me know if this is desirable or necessary??
  226.               Because the *.MSG packets are normally created as a temporary
  227.               process so I don't see it necessary to update this attribute.
  228.  
  229.             - Normally MSG2REP will scan *.MSG files from the highest number
  230.               it scanned last.  This may not be desirable in some cases, so
  231.               I've added a switch to ignore this "last scanned pointer" and
  232.               scan all available messages.  To ignore this last scanned
  233.               pointers, use the /IP switch on the command line.
  234.  
  235.             Please use the /IS, /IP switches with caution because re-dumping
  236.             messages back to the net can cause you to loss your mail feed
  237.             privileges.
  238.  
  239.             - Tip: Mail import & export are very disk intensive operations.
  240.               The use of delay-write cache such as the new SMARTDrive 4 and
  241.               HyperDisk with the staged write option enable will speed up
  242.               these operations as well as easing the stress load on the hard
  243.               drive. To enable delay-write on HyperDisk use the S T:n option
  244.               on the command line.  Change the T:n to a value that gets the
  245.               best performance on your system.
